Utility Operations Supervisor
About the role
Under general direction, supervises, coordinates and schedules the work of crews involved in all aspects of water and wastewater operations, maintenance and repair; performs related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Schedules and assigns work to crews in the repair and maintenance of utility water and wastewater systems.
- Requests materials and equipment for work crews.
- Assists work crews with difficult jobs.
- Inspects work in progress and upon completion.
- Administers department safety programs.
- Enforces City departmental rules and regulations.
- Counsels, disciplines, and evaluates subordinates.
- Provides advice on work methods and procedures.
- Reviews operating records.
- Assists with preparation of departmental budget.
- Arranges for preventive maintenance and needed repairs.
- Investigates and resolves customer complaints.
- Affirms that needed materials are available to crews.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED and seven years of experience in maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, lift stations, pretreatment/water quality, SCADA System, including two years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of construction principles, maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, lift stations, SCADA System, experience in assigning and supervising the work of others; experience in preparing records and reports; good interpersonal skills; work effectively and courteously with others.
- Ability to train, supervise and evaluate all staff.
Qualifications
- A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum Class II Wastewater Collection Operator License and Class C Water Distribution Operator License and ability to obtain a Class III Wastewater Collection Operator License and Class B Water Distribution Operator License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 24 months of hire.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., pull, push or drag up to 100 lbs.; sit, stand, stoop or twist for extended periods of time while supervising utility operations.
- Subject to be on-call during non-working hours.
- Willingness and ability to reside within a 30-minute response time of the Public Works Building within six (6) months of employment.

Pay
Hiring Range: $67,027.26 - $83,783.78
Schedule
Works both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather; some exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical, and toxic hazards that are routinely encountered in utility operations.
