As an integral part of our used-vehicle sales team, the Used Car Manager is responsible for sourcing and procuring a consistent supply of high-quality, marketable pre-owned vehicles. This role operates within established financial guidelines and purchasing policies to ensure optimal inventory levels that meet customer demands and align with management’s strategic goals.

Pay

Competitive salary: $2,000 monthly base salary plus 1.75% commission of total new and used car department gross. Expected annual earnings of $90,000+.

Responsibilities

  • Discuss purchasing requirements and forecast sales for future months with the general manager.
  • Attend auctions approved by management and purchase vehicles.
  • Approve all paperwork from auctions and provide proper documentation to the office for purchases.
  • Notify the general manager of anticipated delivery of purchases.
  • Track results of auction purchases and compare gross profits from auction vehicles with those of trade-ins.
  • Analyze sales history and local area trends to determine the best purchasing mix.
  • Track customer interest in vehicles not in stock (lost sales).
  • Keep abreast of current market and current valuation of used vehicles.
  • Appraise vehicle trades along with the sales manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations regarding the used-vehicle industry.
  • Work with service/reconditioning manager to get work done timely.
  • Maximize profit on wholesale units by disposing of old age/trades.
  • Price and market used vehicles based on market conditions to maximize profit.
  • Develop and maintain outside sources (wholesalers and retailers) for both buying and selling units.
  • Maintain professional appearance.
  • Attend managers meetings as requested.
  • Test drive vehicles as needed.
  • Must be insurable with company insurance.

  • Excellent communication skills (including listening, writing, speaking).

  • Ability to effectively establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Skill and ability to meet people and listen.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Mental ability to conduct ongoing interpersonal interactions.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

  • Physical ability to use computer hardware/software.
  • Understand the value of new and used vehicles.
  • Complete understanding of the sales process.
  • Ability to learn automotive-specific programs.
