Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: $1,500 monthly base salary plus 1.0% commission of total Used Car and Buy Center department gross. This position will also receive a $50 bonus for every used vehicle retailed by the Sales Department. Expected annual earnings of $90,000+.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO): New full-time employees accrue 4 hours per pay period, totaling approximately 96 hours in the first year, with increases over time.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the General Manager to establish used vehicle inventory needs, purchasing targets, and inventory mix.
  • Attend approved auctions and purchase vehicles within established guidelines.
  • Source vehicles through auctions, wholesalers, the Buy Center, and other approved acquisition channels.
  • Determine ACVs on Buy Center purchases and other used vehicle acquisitions.
  • Review market data, sales history, inventory age, customer demand, and local trends to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of current used vehicle values and market conditions.
  • Manage the wholesale disposition of aged, undesirable, or non-retail inventory to maximize profitability and inventory turn.
  • Ensure all required documentation for vehicle purchases is completed accurately and submitted to the appropriate departments in a timely manner.
  • Ensure acquired vehicles are entered into the appropriate inventory and UVI tracking processes.
  • Develop and maintain outside relationships with wholesalers, retailers, auction representatives, and other vehicle acquisition sources.
  • Track the performance of purchased inventory and review retail and wholesale results to improve future buying decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company requirements related to used vehicle purchasing and disposition.
  • Attend management meetings as requested.
  • Test drive vehicles as needed and must remain insurable under company insurance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of used vehicle values and automotive market conditions.
  • Previous experience buying used vehicles, managing used inventory, working as an automotive buyer, or similar automotive experience preferred.
  • Auction Purchasing Experience Preferred.
  • Ability to analyze market data and make financially sound inventory decisions.
  • Ability to evaluate vehicle condition, history, marketability, and appropriate ACV.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use automotive inventory, appraisal, auction, and dealership management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple vehicles and priorities in a fast-paced dealership environment.
