USAISR Organ Support and Critical Care Capability Development Research Opportunity

About the role

The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering a post-doctoral fellowship at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command - Institute of Surgical Research (USAMRDC ISR) within the Expeditionary Medical Systems (EMS) Department. This fellowship focuses on advancing military-relevant organ support, extracorporeal life support, trauma care, hemorrhagic shock management, critical care, and battlefield resuscitation capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Gaining advanced scientific knowledge in subjects including extracorporeal life support, organ support technologies, trauma resuscitation, coagulation, thrombosis, and critical care medicine.
  • Designing, executing, and analyzing translational research programs involving medical devices, therapeutics, and physiological monitoring technologies relevant to combat casualty care.
  • Developing scientific roadmaps, gap analyses, and technical assessments that inform future medical capability development.
  • Participating in scientific review for ongoing intramural and collaborative research programs.
  • Preparing manuscripts, technical reports, conference presentations, funding proposals, and transition planning documents.
  • Collaborating between USAISR investigators and external academic, industry, and government partners to advance translational research objectives.
  • Applying continuity and scientific integration across ongoing intramural and collaborative efforts involving organ support, critical care technologies, and prolonged casualty care.

Requirements

The qualified candidate will have an M.D. or Ph.D. in Basic Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Comparative Medicine and Laboratory Animal Medicine or other eligible discipline.

Preferred skills:

  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications, extramural funding, and translational research leadership
  • Knowledge of military-relevant critical care, trauma physiology, organ support, coagulation biology, and medical device evaluation
  • Experience with multidisciplinary collaborations involving academia, government, and industry

Qualifications

The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen only.

The candidate must have a Doctoral Degree.

The candidate must have a Discipline(s) in Life Health and Medical Sciences (7).

Skills

The candidate must have the following skills:

  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications, extramural funding, and translational research leadership
  • Knowledge of military-relevant critical care, trauma physiology, organ support, coagulation biology, and medical device evaluation
  • Experience with multidisciplinary collaborations involving academia, government, and industry
