About the role
The Senior Manager, Business Development & Strategic Partnerships will scale strategic partnerships into a material membership acquisition channel for Sam’s Club. This role will identify, develop, negotiate, and launch new business opportunities capable of driving significant membership growth. The leader will build a high-value pipeline, create scalable commercial models, develop executive relationships, and work cross-functionally from concept through launch and expansion. Performance is measured by the quality, scale, and membership impact of partnerships brought to market.
About the team
The Membership Partnerships team drives growth by building scalable partnerships that connect Sam’s Club with new audiences and acquisition channels. Operating at the intersection of business development, sales, commercial strategy, and customer acquisition, the team identifies partners, negotiates agreements, and launches programs designed to deliver meaningful membership growth. The team operates with an entrepreneurial, owner-operator mindset—moving quickly, embracing ambiguity, and proactively creating opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage a high-value pipeline, converting prospects into scalable partnerships.
- Proactively prospect and develop relationships with senior decision-makers.
- Own opportunities from outreach through negotiation, contracting, launch, and early growth.
- Create partnership models and business cases that drive incremental membership acquisition.
- Lead negotiations across economics, volume commitments, performance expectations, and terms.
- Deliver goals for partnership launches and membership volume generated.
- Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Product, Marketing, Media, and Operations.
- Use data and financial insights to optimize, expand, renegotiate, or exit partnerships.
- Identify new channels, audiences, and business models that unlock growth.
- Clearly communicate executional priorities and requirements across stakeholders.
Requirements
- Proven experience in business development, strategic partnerships, enterprise sales, or a related commercial role.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering against measurable business development, sales, customer acquisition, revenue, or growth targets.
- Proven ability to independently source, develop, negotiate, and close new opportunities.
- Strong negotiation, deal-structuring, and executive relationship-management skills.
- Commercial and financial acumen with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to influence and lead across complex cross-functional organizations.
- Strong communication, executive presence, persistence, and bias for action.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or related field and 3 years’ experience in business development, market development, product development, or relevant area OR 5 years’ experience in business development, market development, product development, or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in sales.
- Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, or related field.
- Supervisory experience.
- Working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in loyalty, membership, rewards, advertising/media partnerships, retail media, affiliate marketing, fintech, telecommunications, benefits, or consumer partnerships.

Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) adjustments based on location.
