About the role

Operates base radio station, answer telephones, direct calls, dispatch officers to calls on campus. Give directions, maintain radio communications with officers and MUHA Safety and Security.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch officers promptly to emergency and other locations.
  • Maintain a dispatch log of all activities for dispatched or received calls and for all events.
  • Answer all non-emergency & emergency telephone lines, obtain and record pertinent information regarding the nature and urgency of the situation, determine appropriate response, and expeditiously alert responding units via radio or telephone, dispatch officer for assistance and/or investigations.
  • Utilize machinery and equipment in the performance of daily tasks.
  • Mentor all Communications Specialists assigned to the Field Training Program, coordinate the training.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two years of entry-level work experience with voice communications systems or central switchboard operations.
  • An associate degree in a technical communications discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

  • Ability to hear and/or understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
  • Ability to work in dusty areas.
  • Ability to discern between various types of alarm systems warning signals.

Additional New Requirements

  • Computer literacy.
