About the Role

The faculty member will teach preclinical and clinical aspects of dental prosthetic fabrication, focusing on digital design and fabrication of various dental prostheses, including ceramic fixed prostheses and digital complete dentures. Responsibilities include utilizing digital CAD designing, CAM milling, sintering, and characterizing fixed prosthetics for predoctoral restorative, removable, and implant prosthodontic clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate in-house prostheses, ranging from single restorative units to complex implant-supported prostheses.
  • Utilize 3D printing for departmental needs and assist other departments on campus, including graduate programs in digital dentistry, AEGD, orthodontics, research, periodontics, and oral maxillofacial surgery.
  • Provide consultative services related to 3D printing to other colleges and institutes, such as the Bioengineering group and the Zucker Institute of Applied Neuroscience.
  • Conduct advanced-level research using complex printing and milling laboratory equipment, evaluating the trueness and precision of printed parts following ISO standard 5725.
  • Supervise and train dental students in CAD/CAM laboratory work for both removable and fixed restorations, including 3D metal printing of partial denture frameworks, resin printing, and milling of complete dentures.
  • Direct the operation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex laboratory equipment, such as selective laser fusion metal printers, Digital Light Projector resin printers, and 5 and 3-axis milling systems.

Qualifications

  • DMD or DDS equivalent degree with an advanced degree in prosthodontics, restorative dentistry, digital dentistry, or equivalent training.
  • Master’s degree in relevant dental sciences is highly preferred.

Skills

  • Experience in digital design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of dental removable and fixed prosthetics, including full arch hybrid restorations, complete digital dentures, digital removable partial dentures, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, overdentures, and implant-supported restorations.
  • Strong knowledge of dental science, anatomy, and principles of esthetics, with emphasis on the oral-facial complex.
  • Proficiency with 3Shape and Exocad software packages, including complicated implant restorations and fixed removable prosthetics.
  • Comfortable with smile design using 3D smile design software in Exocad and 3Shape, including working with 3D face scans.
  • Familiarity with Sirona Inlab software package.
  • Knowledgeable in dental implant planning software and surgical guide fabrication.
