About the Role
Assisting the Director of Nursing Services in the planning, organizing, and directing of the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as facility policies. The objective is to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Qualifications
- Current CPR certificate and LPN license.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently and understandably.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies, and the general public.
- Leadership and supervisory ability, with a willingness to work harmoniously with personnel.
- Personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful demeanor.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Capacity to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Functional sight and hearing senses (prosthetics acceptable if they enable adequate function).
- Ability to function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with others.
- Good general health and emotional stability.
- Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile individuals.
Responsibilities
- Review the department’s Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Assist clinical nursing staff with entering MD orders in a timely manner.
- Support clinical nursing staff in preparing for new admissions, including taking nurse-to-nurse reports and preparing charts with diagnoses, allergies, and standing batch orders.
- Plan, conduct, and participate in in-service education programs.
- Assist with setting up appointments as ordered by the MD.
- Facilitate communication between families, residents, MDs, and clinical staff.
- Coordinate transportation as needed.
- Follow up on daily lab results and communicate concerns to MDs, clinical staff, and immediate supervisors.
- Assist clinical staff with ordering house stock medications.
- Organize the medication room, remove expired medications, and maintain necessary supplies.
- Perform administrative duties such as answering telephone calls, filing/scanning medical records, completing forms, and conducting required audits.
- Maintain general organization of nursing units.
- Foster an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, ensuring a calm environment throughout the department.
