About the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Manager provides leadership and oversight for the daily operations of an assigned nursing unit. This position ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and resident-centered care in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, facility policies, and professional standards of practice. The RN Unit Manager serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and resource for nursing staff, while fostering a positive and collaborative environment that supports residents, families, and team members.
Responsibilities
- Supervises nursing care provided by Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants/State Tested Nursing Assistants.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including:
- Interviews, recommends hires, and trains employees.
- Plans, assigns, and directs workflow.
- Prepares work assignment sheets, considering resident safety and staff qualifications.
- Receives calls and finds replacements for absent staff as needed.
- Transfers employees within units as needed.
- Prepares performance evaluations, impacting tenure and wage increases.
- Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks.
- Receives and resolves employee complaints.
- Determines rotation of nurses within the unit.
- Monitors and corrects job performance of employees.
- Disciplines employees, up to and including recommendation of discharge.
- Adequately supervises assigned staff and ensures they supervise their assigned employees.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in long-term care or post-acute setting.
- Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or management role preferred.
- Working knowledge of nursing practice, infection control, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
