About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the unit during your tour of duty. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility by assisting with development, maintenance, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
  • Oversee and ensure all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, and accident/incident reports as necessary.
  • Attend and actively participate in various committee meetings of the facility (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, Care Plan Committee) as required and implement recommendations as instructed by the Director.
  • Make recommendations to the Director regarding the equipment needs of the nursing services department, keeping within budgetary guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure an adequate stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is maintained on premises at all times to meet the needs of residents.
  • Assist the Maintenance Director in developing a preventive maintenance program for maintaining the nursing service department’s equipment and supplies in a safe and operable manner.
  • Ensure care plan and assessment duties are performed in accordance with the Unit Manager job description.
  • Assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including the implementation of RAPs and Triggers.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information, and report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure.
  • Adhere to Resident’s rights and perform other work-related or personal nursing care duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/LVN program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility.
  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • Current, unencumbered, active RN or LPN license to practice in this state.
  • BLS/CPR and AED Program Certification is required.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must be a supportive team member and contribute to and exemplify teamwork.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
  • Leadership and supervisory ability, with a willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary for providing quality care.
  • Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Willingness to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and meet all other physical and sensory requirements of the job.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

Annual salary range: $95,000 - $115,000, based on full-time employment.
