Unit Coordinator - Med Surg Oncology
About the role
The Unit Coordinator position is located on the 8300 Medical-Surgical Oncology Unit at TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital, a 44-bed unit caring for a diverse patient population with medical-surgical needs including cardiothoracic, abdominal, vascular, gastrointestinal, women’s health, surgeries, and surgical oncology patients. This role supports a supportive learning environment for both new graduates and experienced nurses, focusing on advanced clinical skills such as care of cardiothoracic surgical patients, chest tubes, and patients undergoing oncology or vascular treatments.
The unit is affiliated with renowned organizations, including the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, the Oncology Nursing Society, Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing, the American Cancer Society, and the American Nurses Association. Nurses are encouraged to pursue certifications in Medical-Surgical Nursing, GERO-BC, palliative care, and the ONS Chemotherapy Certification.
Schedule
Part-time, 48 hours bi-weekly, day shift (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM). Includes every 3rd weekend rotation and holiday rotation.
Responsibilities
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and other departments while maintaining confidentiality.
- Supports patient satisfaction through clear guidance and timely response to call lights and phones.
- Prioritizes tasks effectively and handles work demands appropriately.
- Retrieves and secures medications from the tube system correctly.
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations and follows related policies and procedures.
- Performs computer downtime procedures per TriHealth guidelines.
- Stays informed about organizational and unit changes and supports new initiatives.
- Demonstrates accountability, identifies areas for improvement, and pursues self-development.
- Maintains proficiency in unit-specific computer applications and equipment operations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Capable of operating office and clerical equipment.
- Computer skills.
