The Health Unit Coordinator
- Answers and directs calls from patients, family members, physicians, ancillary departments in a professional and pleasant manner.
- Makes sure to monitor cardiac telemetry and notify staff RNs for changes.
- Takes and record vital signs accurately and in a timely manner, reporting unusual readings.
- Maintains competency in all functions of the computer system.
- Provides information requested and relays messages accurately and timely to providers, nursing staff, other departments, etc.
- Initiates, maintains and disassembles patient charts.
- Demonstrates flexibility in daily schedule and duties.
- Performs all functions relating to cardiac monitoring and reports changes appropriately.
- Performs the role of receptionist and orders supplies.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent education required
- Requires typing skills of 20 wpm and computer skills.
- Required to have completed basic EKG course and/or score 85% or higher on BMH EKG exam within six months of hire.
- Requires the ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Requires excellent communication technique.
- Requires the ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply proper procedures to Beloit Health System's policies.
- Successful completion of CPR within three months of hire.
Reporting Relationship
Registered Nurse, Clinical Manager, and Department Director.
