Unemployment Compensation Tax Agent

About the role

The Department of Labor & Industry seeks independent and highly motivated individuals to audit employer records, conduct investigations, and ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation (UC) law.

Responsibilities

• Audit Reviews: Examine payroll records, financial documents, and accounting ledgers to calculate proper taxable wages.
• Record Reconstruction: Rebuild payroll information when employer records are incomplete or missing.
• Compliance Actions: Identify reporting errors, prepare adjustments, and ensure employer accounts meet UC Law requirements.
• Investigation Work: Conduct inquiries into blocked claims, employer liability, registration accuracy, and potential misclassification issues.
• Collection Activities: Perform field collection tasks, negotiate payment plans, and initiate enforcement actions when needed.
• Account Evaluation: Analyze employer UCMS accounts to identify discrepancies and initiate corrective actions.

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor’s degree with 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Other Requirements: Valid driver's license, current residency in Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, or Venango County, ability to perform essential job functions.

Benefits

Frequent travel throughout assigned territory in Pennsylvania is required. Travel expenses will be paid. Salary may be non-negotiable in some cases. The position is home headquartered with a secure internet connection and work from an approved location in Pennsylvania.

Schedule

Full-time employment with work hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Alternate Work Schedule is available.
