About the role

Wake County Tax Administration is looking for a Tax Agent to join our team. There is always something new to learn, and we encourage staff to attend industry classes to broaden their knowledge and earn certifications. As a Tax Agent, you will enjoy competitive pay, excellent benefits, and job stability. After approximately a six-month training period, new employees may have an opportunity to work a rotating hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve customer inquiries by phone or in person, including researching accounts, accepting payments, establishing payment arrangements, or explaining tax laws
  • Process payments received electronically or by mail
  • Initiate collection actions on delinquent accounts
  • Update records for business, real estate, and individual property

Requirements

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • One year of experience in property tax, public finance, or similar setting
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Two years of experience in a professional business environment with heavy customer service
  • Two years of experience in a local or state government office performing duties directly related to those of a Tax Agent

Qualifications

  • Outstanding customer service skills with a genuine desire to offer patience to all customers
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to make good decisions and apply sound reasoning to resolve issues in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize duties
  • Proficiency with technology and the ability to use multiple applications simultaneously

Pay

Hiring Range: $26.44 - $30.84 per hour
Market Range: $26.44 - $35.23 per hour

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:25 AM - 5:10 PM
