About the Role

An Underground Boring General Foreman at Irby Construction Company is a senior field supervisor who manages multiple underground utility, trenchless technology, and directional drilling crews. This role bridges the gap between project managers and field workers to ensure operations run safely, efficiently, and on schedule. These job openings are for Orlando and the surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate multiple bore and utility crews to synchronize labor, heavy equipment, and company priorities.
  • Manage the execution of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and auger boring operations according to blueprints and utility specifications.
  • Enforce OSHA standards and company HSE (Health, Safety, & Environmental) policies to protect workers and prevent utility strikes.
  • Verify bore paths, oversee drilling mud/fluid mixtures, and ensure the correct installation of conduits and pipes.
  • Review daily production reports, complete bore logs, manage equipment maintenance, and coordinate Dig Safe/811 utility markings.
  • Order necessary materials, track job progress, and communicate with clients, engineers, and project managers.
  • Ensure work is performed according to specifications by monitoring crews for safety, quality, and production.
  • Assist with coordination of major project activities and attend required project meetings with owners as needed.
  • Update schedules and/or progress reports, and verify that as-builts and progress charts are maintained.
  • Maintain a good line of communication with inspectors.
  • Arrange and/or participate in weekly foremen meetings and monthly safety meetings.
  • Participate in monthly job safety review meetings.
  • Accountable for cost, progress, and schedule for the duration of the project.
  • Ensure compliance with the safety program and review all accidents.
  • Follow up on any complaints from owners, the general public, or landowners.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive trade experience in horizontal directional drilling, trenching, and underground utility installation.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple teams, resolve field conflicts, and train crew members.
  • Ability to read and interpret job prints, perform math (e.g., calculating pipe angles and bore setbacks), and operate or troubleshoot heavy equipment.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A) and relevant industry Operator Qualifications (OQs) are frequently required.
