Department: Library — Location: Eastern Campus — Reports to: Program Manager, Assessment & Testing
About the Role
The Chemistry Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.
Topics covered include atomic structure, periodic trends, thermochemistry, acid-base reactions, chemical equilibria, and related concepts from courses such as:
- Intro to Inorganic Chemistry
- Intro to Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry
- General Chemistry
Responsibilities
- Provides one-on-one and small-group tutoring support
- Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences
- Assists students in the use of equipment and learning materials
- Conducts class visits and helps publicize the College’s tutoring services
- Maintains accurate records and completes necessary paperwork by stated deadlines
- Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Education consistent with department needs
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. Duties typically involve:
- Sitting comfortably to perform tasks, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers (e.g., typing, using a computer mouse)
- Occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
- Travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite, which may require additional walking and standing
Pay
$18.03 per hour
Schedule
Part-time, flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends) based on department needs. The supervisor will work with the selected candidate to set a schedule.
