About the role

The Chemistry Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.

Topics covered include: atomic structure, periodic trends, thermochemistry, acid-base reactions, chemical equilibria, and related concepts. Tutors should have knowledge from courses such as:

  • Intro to Inorganic Chemistry
  • Intro to Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry
  • General Chemistry

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts
  • Assists students with the use of equipment and learning materials
  • Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
  • Maintains accurate records and completes necessary paperwork according to deadlines
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Education consistent with department needs
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee may sit comfortably to perform duties, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard. Occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books may be required. Work may also involve travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

Pay

$18.21 per hour

Schedule

Schedule varies based on the needs of the department. Flexible hours including days, evenings, and weekends. The supervisor will work with the selected candidate to set a schedule designed to support departmental demands.
