About the Role

The Chemistry Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.

  • Acid base reactions
  • Chemical equilibria
  • Base reactions

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts
  • Assists with the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student success
  • Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
  • Maintains accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
  • Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Education consistent with department needs and minimum of associate’s degree in a related field of study
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter, including courses such as:
    • Intro to Inorganic Chemistry
    • Intro to Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry
    • General Chemistry

Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation
  • Typically involves sitting comfortably to perform duties, with repetitive motions using hands/fingers (e.g., computer mouse and keyboard)
  • May require some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
  • May require walking and standing for meetings or conferences away from the worksite

Pay

$18.21/hour
