Summary

Learns all activities required to pick up and deliver parts and/or products to and from suppliers or customers.

Learns how to prepare furnaces and associated components for safe and secure shipment to customer locations while optimizing load configurations.

Learns to coordinate transportation arrangements to meet or exceed customer requirements or published schedules.

Learns to efficiently utilize resources to minimize scrap, materials, and labor.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintains and turns in accurate daily labor reports.
  • Strictly adheres to published company ISO guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintains and supplies own hand tools per published list.
  • Becomes familiar with and gains an understanding of all equipment assigned to the area including the various safety aspects such as lockout/tagout, and associated equipment procedures, capabilities, and capacities.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to prepare, read, interpret, and process all orders utilizing standard documentation such as packing lists, bills of lading, hazardous materials documentation, export papers, or other authorized forms.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to attach labels or other identifying tags required to insure accuracy of shipment.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to accurately set-up, adjust, and operate all applicable equipment including saws, nailers, staple guns, and scales to meet shipping requirements.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to select, set-up, and adjust miscellaneous hand tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to plan and lay out work by measuring, marking, or scribing dimensions and/or reference points on material or workpiece for the construction of boxes, crates, skids, or other applicable containments.
  • Prepares product for export.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to accurately inventory and document parts and/or product to be shipped.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to accurately maintain all documentation in the job file and distributes requested information to appropriate departments.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to verify that truck has been tarped by the driver to protect product against adverse weather conditions.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to determine the best method of shipment based on such variables as availability, customer requirements, safety, legal restrictions, or any combination thereof.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to obtain quotes and other data necessary to maximize shipping requirements.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to contact freight company and schedule pick-up.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to plan activities required to complete job and achieve on time shipment.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to load and unload trucks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to compile and maintain material control records on all expendable items within the department.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude for the use of common, generally accepted measuring devices applicable to the area as required.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to verify proof of conformance of finished product to specifications.
  • Able to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to safely operate overhead cranes, fork trucks, handtrucks, or other various equipment to move material or product.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of the principals, capacities, and safety aspects of how to properly select, attach, and move materials and/or equipment with the appropriate lifting devices such as chains, clevices, or straps.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of how to perform simple upkeep and/or cleaning of equipment.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude of stock locations and stores excess material properly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards in compliance with established company policies.
  • Able to work with supervision and/or leadmen to accomplish any given task.
  • Assists others as required.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) and a minimum of 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and comprehend all forms of written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to write simple correspondence. Effectively able to present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors, and other employees of the organization.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Basic knowledge of determining angles is required in order to properly build containers and/or skids.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply a common sense approach and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Fork lift and overhead crane training and certification.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles may require respiratory protection; and occasionally to high and/or precarious places; the noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require hearing protection.
