About the role
Cover drivers who are on vacation, sick, injured, or otherwise unavailable. Cover Class A routes and primarily Class B straight truck routes. Perform multi-stop deliveries of parts and supplies to retail stores. Unload freight using a pallet jack. Travel to Montgomery, AL as needed to provide driver coverage. Stay overnight when traveling outside the Birmingham area.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday nights
- Start times vary by assignment
- Routes typically start between 11 PM to 1 AM
- Hours vary by route
- Primarily home daily when working in Birmingham
- Occasional overnight travel to Montgomery, AL for coverage

Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL required
- Applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence
- Currently hold, or ability to obtain, a non-excepted interstate DOT medical card
- 1 year of documented tractor-trailer experience in the last 3 years required, or 2 years of documented tractor-trailer experience in the last 5 years
- 3 years DMV/MVR record with two or fewer moving violations or accidents
- English language proficiency (required by federal law, 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2))
- Ability to work the required schedule and at the specific location
- Complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (including past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening
Physical Requirements
- Ability to see and hear; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, and sitting
- Frequent use of hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg; may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely and frequently enter/exit the vehicle as well as the rear cargo area
