About the role
JE Dunn, ENR’s #2-ranked Contractor in Correctional Facilities Construction, seeks individuals to join our traveling family building innovative, efficient, safe, and technologically advanced courthouses and corrections facilities. The Traveling General Superintendent - Justice will lead our growing portfolio of Justice projects across the U.S., developing and executing project plans while overseeing all aspects of complex assignments. This role manages teams, construction sequencing, and project goals, operating independently while adapting plans as needed.

Responsibilities
- Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through actions and mentoring. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
- Manages subcontractors and organizes overall job workflow.
- Oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO for small projects or major portions of larger projects.
- Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Coordinates and manages care, custody, and control of the project site.
- Leads daily standup and weekly trade meetings; attends, manages, and participates in progress and OAC meetings.
- Creates, manages, and adjusts the project schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using project management system reports.
- Communicates key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments.
- Follows project filing and documentation systems; updates drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
- Approves and records unit cost information for weekly reports; completes daily reports, logs, and tracking reports.
- Evaluates progress on self-perform work and adjusts as needed.
- Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
- Supports MOC (Material and Other Costs) and DLSC (Dunn Logistics Service Center) procurement and approval processes.
- Assists in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform operations.
- Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes.
- Ensures quality compliance through specifications, setting standards, and QA/QC processes.
- Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with owners, architects, and authorities.
- Understands the project pursuit process and methodology.
- Participates in project pre-planning with field operations leadership; implements, monitors, and adjusts plans throughout the project lifecycle.
- Partners with field leadership to establish field staffing for assigned projects.
- Partners with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of project changes.
- Participates in negotiations with owners and architects to agree on project changes.
- Prepares and presents materials for project review meetings, including monthly reviews and key project meetings.
- Participates in project buyout meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
- Understands and applies terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
- Identifies and recruits top talent.
- Leads, supports, and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.
- Ensures positive, proactive implementation of JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone or multiple complex projects from planning to completion.
- Provides management and oversight to multiple projects and project teams.
- Contributes to company and regional strategic initiatives.
- Participates in developing company training content.
- Responsible for selecting and developing internal subject matter experts.
- Delivers leadership messages to internal and external audiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- 12+ years of construction experience.
- 10+ years of field supervision experience.
- Experience leading Lean principles on projects (preferred).
- Demonstrated success in executing multiple large or complex Justice/Corrections construction projects and/or leading multiple project teams (preferred).
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
