About the role

The healthcare organization is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse (RN) for a Step Down Unit position located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing dedicated care to a diverse patient population with medical diagnoses, in a hospital setting under construction, with an emphasis on critical and intermediate patient management. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment supporting both medical and step-down patients.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient care according to SOPs
  • Handle multiple IV drips with written orders
  • Operate CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, and vents in both floor and step-down settings
  • Work collaboratively with charge RNs and Clinical Associates
  • Adhere to clinical and operational protocols

Required qualifications

  • Valid license to practice as an RN
  • BLS (AHA) certification
  • Epic electronic medical record experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent clinical experience on a step-down or medical-surgical unit
  • Ability to handle 6 patients in a medical-surgical setting or 3 patients in step-down setting

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with titrating drips such as Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, anti-arrhythmics, phenobarbitol, ketamine, PCA medications, and TPN
  • Experience reading telemetry strips using Phillips monitors

Schedule

  • Day Shift, 7:00 am to 7:30 pm
  • Weekend shifts scheduled every Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, Monday
  • 12-hour shifts with an emphasis on floating to other units if necessary
  • No call or standby requirements

Additional information

  • Unit is in early construction, with all beds expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2026
  • Patient ratios: 3:1 for step-down and 6:1 for the general floor
  • RNs will be part of a team supported by telemonitoring systems
  • Charge RNs will likely take an assignment upon unit opening
  • Unit-specific orientation provided
  • Uniforms: any combination of royal blue and white
