Job Summary

Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in Morgantown, West Virginia. This role involves providing care on a 29-bed step-down and med-surg unit that is currently under construction, with new beds opening in the first quarter of 2026. The nurse will be responsible for managing diverse patient diagnoses, handling titration of drips, and working within a team that includes charge nurses, house supervisors, clinical associates, and telemetry staff. The position offers dayshift coverage with every other weekend and holidays as scheduled.

Schedule

Schedule: 12-hour days shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid BLS (American Heart Association) certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
  • Must have EPIC EHR system experience
  • West Virginia state RN license or ability to obtain
  • Willing to wait for license submission

Certifications

  • BLS (AHA) required

Experience or 'Must have' skills

  • Ability to handle 6 med-surg patients or 3 step-down patients
  • Experience with titrating drips such as heparin and insulin
  • Familiarity with EPIC platform

Patient Care & Unit Details

Serves both floor and step-down patients with a diverse medical diagnoses population. RNs will absorb telemetry monitoring via the centralized Phillips telemetry system, and vents or BiPAP machines are available on the unit. Staffing & Operational Notes: First to float or be pulled to other floor/step-down units; nurse aids (Clinical Associates) present with a ratio of 1:10; charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7; no call or standby required. Equipment & Monitoring: CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, vents, and telemetry monitoring. RNs are not expected to read their own strips.

Additional Notes

  • Service is acute care with initial orientation specific to the unit
  • Dress code is any combination of royal blue and white
  • Cancellation policy includes two shifts per 13-week assignment and one shift for shorter assignments

Pay package

The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
