Job Summary

The role provides acute care on a Med/Tele Step Down unit, supporting adult and geriatric patients with a focus on cardiac-related needs and PCU-level overflow.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret telemetry/monitor strips
  • Care for adults and geriatrics with common diagnoses including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, and patients requiring PCU level care
  • Manage titratable or set rate infusions as applicable (including amiodarone, diltiazem, heparin, nitroglycerin, nitroprusside, and furosemide, with occasional low-dose dopamine)
  • Provide care for patients who may require noninvasive respiratory support (including BiPAP and BiPAP-related needs) and support with troubleshooting as needed
  • Floating support across other unit areas may be required as assisting coverage, including full patient load PCU and full patient assignment in MS as needed
  • Onboarding includes 212 hour shifts during orientation with Friday and Saturday of the first week of orientation and completion on own by the following Sunday

Required Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • RN licensure (license required to submit)
  • PCU experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Epic preferred

Additional Information

  • 32-bed unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:45 with occasional 56 on nights
  • PCU level overflow patients may be present
  • Charge nurse exists on each shift and may occasionally take a light assignment (23 patients)
  • Cancellation expectations are 4 shifts per contract (or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks)
