American Traveler is seeking a travel Registered Respiratory Therapist for a night-shift position at a Level II trauma teaching hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is a 52-week travel assignment starting November 9, 2026, with one opening available.

Schedule

• Shift: Nights, 4 × 12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
• Weekly hours: 48 (36 or 48 hours per week options noted)
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays

Requirements

• RRT certification required
• BLS required
• ACLS preferred
• ACCS preferred
• Minimum 2+ years of experience required (4 years preferred)
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Level II trauma experience required
• Level I trauma experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• BSN preferred
• VA state license required if applicable; must hold another state license to be eligible for a temporary VA license
• Nursys verification required
• Two professional references required

Responsibilities

• Work within Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department settings
• Manage ventilator settings including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Perform airway management procedures including intubation assist, extubation, and suctioning
• Administer aerosolized and inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, and inhaled steroids
• Care for patients with ARDS, aspiration, pneumonia, and fresh tracheostomy
• Perform chest physiotherapy, arterial blood gas draws and interpretation, and tracheostomy care
• Float within scope of practice as needed

Additional details

• 52-week assignment length
• Maximum 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
• Disclose any vacation time between sign date and start date
• Previous UVA Health staff or travelers must have 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days
• Facility maintains a 50-mile radius restriction for certain specialty units
