Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adults in a PCU with high-acuity needs, including sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, respiratory failure, COPD, CKD, and encephalopathy
- Maintain continuous monitoring of patients, interpret vital signs and telemetry, administer medications and IV therapies, and adjust care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
- Recognize changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate interventions, and escalate as needed to the charge nurse or provider
- Document assessments, care plans, medications, and procedures accurately in the electronic health record; participate in discharge planning and patient education
- Maintain patient safety and infection control standards, including adherence to care protocols and infection prevention practices
- Manage a 16–20 bed unit with a patient-to-nurse ratio of up to 1:4, ensuring timely turnover and bedside care
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a medical step-down/PCU or similar high-acuity unit
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Ability to work night shift as part of a 2x3 night schedule
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and rapid decision-making skills
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and acute care nursing procedures
- Effective communication and collaboration with the care team
