Travel Progressive Care Unit RN - $1,949 per week

About the role

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Asheville, North Carolina. The assignment is 13 weeks, 36 hours per week on 12‑hour day shifts. As a PCU Travel Nurse you will care for patients who require close monitoring and frequent assessment but are not unstable enough for ICU care. You will monitor cardiac and other vital signs via computer equipment, detect changes, and enable intervention for life‑threatening situations. Close observation is needed as many patients receive complex medications, sometimes via IV lines requiring adjustment or titration. The PCU is also known as cardiac step‑down, medical step‑down, neuro step‑down, surgical step‑down, or ER holding.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care; stabilize critical cardiac patients.
• Change dressings, insert catheters and start IVs.
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment.
• Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, and interpret and record electronic displays.
• Initiate corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
• Stand and walk for long periods; bend, lean and stoop without difficulty.
• Lift up to 20 pounds routinely; moving or lifting patients may require up to 50 pounds.
• Cope with stress in a fast‑paced environment and relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Requirements

• 1‑2 years of recent acute care experience.
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications.
• Additional certifications may be required before starting the assignment.

Pay

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
