Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Pathologist Assistant for a 26-week travel assignment in Urbana, Illinois. About the Role
The Pathologist Assistant supports pathologists in the preparation, examination, and dissection of tissue specimens for diagnosis. They assist in autopsies, surgical pathology procedures, and laboratory operations, ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of specimens.
Responsibilities
- Perform examination and dissection of specimens, ensuring proper documentation and processing
- Describe and sections specimens, applying appropriate fixation and processing techniques for microscopic evaluation
- Photograph and document specimens, lesions, and tissue abnormalities for clinical and educational purposes
- Ensure proper labeling, accessioning, and tracking of all specimens to maintain accurate patient records
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- Implement time management skills to optimize workflow and turnaround times
- Adequately manage equipment, provide supplies, and maintain cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite
- Adequately adhere to quality control procedures to ensure accuracy in specimen handling and documentation
- Adequately assist with proper maintenance of equipment, provision of adequate supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite
- Adequately adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- Adequately adhere to quality control procedures to ensure accuracy in specimen handling and documentation
Requirements
- One year of recent experience as a Pathology Assistant
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
- Preferred National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Qualifications
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Must be able to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
