Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care in various healthcare settings, focusing on basic nursing functions such as medication administration, vital sign monitoring, wound care, and patient education.
  • Work as part of a healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and effective care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain patient vital signs: Monitor and record blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
  • Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications via oral, topical, and injection routes.
  • Basic Wound Care: Perform wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care.
  • Activities of Daily Living: Assist patients with bathing, eating, and mobility.
  • Specimen Collection: Collect specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Observation and Reporting: Observe and report changes in patient condition to supervising RN or physician.
  • Health Assessments: Conduct routine health assessments and screenings.
  • Complication Recognition: Monitor patient responses to treatments and medications, recognize and report signs of complications or adverse reactions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and observations.
  • Diagnostic Procedures: Assist with diagnostic procedures and tests.
  • Medication Administration: Prepare and administer medications according to physician orders, verify patient identity and medication accuracy, monitor for side effects and therapeutic responses, maintain records and inventory, educate patients about medication purposes and side effects.
  • Patient Education: Provide basic health education to patients and families, teach about disease management and self-care techniques, offer emotional support and comfort, assist with discharge planning and follow-up care instructions, promote patient safety and infection control practices.
  • Equipment and Supply Management: Operate and maintain basic medical equipment, ensure proper sterilization and cleaning, monitor and order supplies, maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Education and Licensing Requirements

  • Licensure: Current state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • BLS Certification: Current BLS certification.
  • Experience: Previous healthcare experience.
