About the Role

The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator leads the strategic design, implementation, and evaluation of injury and violence prevention programs required to maintain Level I Trauma Center verification. This role analyzes trauma registry and epidemiological data to identify injury trends and develops evidence-based, multi-level interventions across patient, organizational, and community settings throughout the hospital’s service area and the State of Texas.

The coordinator serves as a key liaison between hospital operations and internal and external partners, supporting regulatory compliance, cross-sector collaboration, and measurable improvements in community injury outcomes. This position directly impacts trauma center verification status and requires a high degree of autonomy, subject matter expertise in regulatory requirements, and systems-level change.

Responsibilities

• Researches, designs, implements, and evaluates comprehensive, evidence-informed injury prevention strategies using public health frameworks (e.g., primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention models and the social ecological model). Integrates trauma analytics into community-facing programming to address priority mechanisms of intentional and unintentional injury across the hospital’s service area, region, and the State of Texas.
• Reviews and analyzes mechanisms of injury using trauma registry data, EMR data, and community-level public health datasets to identify trends, disparities, and high-risk populations. Translates data into actionable strategies to inform prevention planning, resource allocation, and measures to reduce violence and injury.
• Directs and implements Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for each viable trauma patient admitted, ensuring regulatory compliance, workflow integration, and quality assurance. Utilizes advanced motivational interviewing techniques and behavioral health screening tools to reduce recidivism, re-injury, and improve long-term outcomes.
• Provides and contributes to prevention efforts by participating in local and state conferences focused on evidence-informed research, policies, strategies, and evaluation.
• Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and educator for providers and interdisciplinary teams by developing programmatic curriculum, toolkits, and strategies to expand organizational and programmatic capacity.
• Engages and supports multidisciplinary coalitions across healthcare, public health, community-based organizations, law enforcement, and academic partners to establish shared injury prevention priorities, measurable goals, and cross-sector implementation strategies.
• Plans, organizes, and delivers public-facing education and professional presentations on injury and violence prevention, translating data into accessible, actionable messages for diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, community stakeholders, and the public.
• Partners with Community Affairs and Communications Departments to develop strategic messaging campaigns grounded in trauma data analytics, ensuring alignment with district-wide injury prevention and public health initiatives.

Requirements

One of the following qualification groupings is required for this position:

• Master’s Degree Path: Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. If applicable, associated licensure/certification (e.g., MSW) is required. Minimum of 2 years of program or project management experience with program implementation, plus 1 year of relevant experience in health education, trauma services, community prevention programs, program development, community outreach, or injury prevention.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing Path: Bachelor's in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity to transfer licensure within 90 days of employment. Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, including 1 year in a trauma center, plus 1 year of relevant experience in health education, trauma services, community prevention programs, program development, community outreach, or injury prevention.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience working in a Level I or II trauma center (Master’s Level candidates).
• 2+ years of work experience in program development, implementation, evaluation, public health, or hospital safety.
• Experience in data analysis of mechanisms of violence and traumatic injury for prioritization of program selection, development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Certified in Public Health through the National Board of Public Health Examiners.
• Certified Health Education Specialist through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday (with weekend events as needed).
