About the Role

The Transportation Supervisor oversees day-to-day transportation operations, including driver supervision, scheduling, route coordination, vehicle readiness, regulatory compliance, and transportation documentation. This role provides hands-on leadership to the transportation team, holds employees accountable for performance and compliance expectations, and collaborates closely with Operations, Distribution, Inventory, and Compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation Operations
    • Oversee daily transportation activities, including driver assignments, routes, schedules, pickups, deliveries, and transfers.
    • Coordinate transportation needs with Distribution, Inventory, Operations, and other departments to ensure products are transported accurately and on schedule.
    • Monitor routes and transportation schedules throughout the day and adjust assignments as necessary to address operational needs, delays, callouts, or other issues.
    • Ensure drivers have the appropriate documentation, equipment, vehicle assignments, and information needed before departing.
    • Confirm transportation activities are completed accurately and all required documentation is returned and properly maintained.
    • Identify opportunities to improve routing, scheduling, productivity, and overall transportation efficiency.
  • Compliance and Security
    • Ensure all transportation activities comply with applicable regulations, local requirements, and company policies and procedures.
    • Ensure required transportation manifests, transfer documentation, logs, and other records are accurate and completed in accordance with established procedures.
    • Immediately report and escalate compliance concerns, transportation discrepancies, security incidents, accidents, product loss, or other unusual activity.
    • Partner with Compliance and Operations to address transportation-related audit findings and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Team Leadership and Employee Accountability
    • Supervise, coach, train, and develop transportation employees.
    • Communicate daily priorities, assignments, expectations, and operational changes to the transportation team.
    • Monitor employee performance, attendance, punctuality, productivity, safety, and adherence to policies and procedures.
    • Address performance or conduct concerns promptly and consistently in partnership with management and Human Resources.
    • Hold employees accountable to consistent performance, safety, attendance, and compliance standards.
    • Foster a professional, respectful, safety-conscious, and accountable work environment.
    • Assist with onboarding and training new transportation employees and ensure employees are properly trained before performing assigned duties.
  • Safety and Vehicle Oversight
    • Promote safe driving practices and ensure drivers comply with company safety requirements and applicable motor vehicle laws.
    • Ensure required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections are completed and documented.
    • Monitor vehicle condition and coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, cleaning, and other service needs.
    • Ensure company vehicles are maintained in safe and operational condition.
    • Address vehicle damage, accidents, mechanical issues, or safety concerns promptly.
    • Maintain accurate vehicle, maintenance, inspection, and transportation records as required.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Prepare and maintain transportation schedules, driver assignments, logs, reports, and other operational records.
    • Review transportation documentation for accuracy and completeness.
    • Track and report transportation metrics, including delivery performance, route efficiency, vehicle utilization, safety incidents, and other key performance indicators.
    • Assist management with investigating discrepancies, incidents, customer concerns, or transportation-related issues.
    • Support transportation policies, procedures, process improvements, and new operational initiatives.
    • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years full-time inventory control experience.
  • Minimum 2 years full-time experience in Warehouse Shipping & Receiving.
  • Some experience with data entry in ERP system.
  • Forklift experience and certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of manual and electric pallet jacks.
  • Sufficient computer skills and knowledge of office programs.
  • Must be above the age of 25.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Schedule

This position requires a 40-hour minimum work week and a willingness to work weekends and holidays. Flexible availability for work hours is required.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand for prolonged periods, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • Ability to reach and grasp while climbing on a step stool and/or ladder.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15-50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit/stand for periods of time as job duties require.
  • Ability to use required tools to perform job duties.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work in normal, refrigerated, and below freezing temperatures for short or long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse or warehouse with high humidity and varying temperatures, with a fair amount of moisture present.
  • Travel between the office and farm sites is required.
