About the role

The Transportation Supervisor oversees and coordinates the activities of all St. Mary’s Food Bank (SMFB) drivers, including those with Class A, Class B, and other relevant licenses. The supervisor ensures high standards of customer service and professionalism, maintains all DOT required records, and schedules staff and temporary services.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains excellent communications with drivers, fostering a positive and rewarding work environment.
  • Maintains high standards of customer service and professionalism while representing St. Mary’s Food Bank.
  • Ensures positive driver recognition and discipline.
  • Maintains all DOT required records and logs, staying updated on new regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains and upholds safety, fueling, DOT, and appearance standards for all company vehicles.
  • Schedules staff and temp services as needed and processes payroll documents accordingly.
  • Writes annual and 90-day evaluations for drivers.
  • Hires drivers to fill openings, updates and maintains all necessary paperwork related to transportation and fleet accountability.
  • Updates and maintains all appropriate paperwork related to the St. Mary’s Food Bank Fleet and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports as assigned.
  • Fills in for drivers on a regular basis to cover personal time off.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the Transportation Manager in the absence of the manager.
  • Trains CDL drivers weekly and monthly.
  • Drives a truck if needed to complete a pick-up or delivery.
  • Maintains the daily maintenance of Routing Software and delivery schedule.
  • Maintains excellent relationships with food donors/merchants and individuals, especially regarding transportation issues.
  • Acts as a liaison between the transportation department and food donors/merchants.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years of transportation experience, including one year of fleet maintenance experience and truck dispatching.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office and Excel software.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Current DOT Medical Certification.
  • Good driving record.
  • Strong communication and supervisory skills in a team and fleet environment.
  • Knowledge of basic math and mechanical concepts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Knowledge of basic safe food handling.
  • Good planning and organization skills.

Qualifications, Skills And Abilities

  • High School or GED.
  • CDL.
  • Good driving record.
  • Current DOT Medical Certification.
  • Interpersonal skills to lead and work effectively with others.
  • Strong knowledge of D.O.T. and CDL requirements and record keeping.
  • Strong communication and supervisory skills in a team and fleet environment.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical concepts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
