About the Role
Supervises transportation operations for the regional location, including routing, dispatching, and training and development of new driver hires. Ensures all drivers adhere to D.O.T. regulations, state and federal laws, and OSHA requirements as they pertain to transportation.
Responsibilities
- Possess working knowledge of morning dispatch and procedures.
- Serve as the primary contact for dispatch-related communications, including answering calls from customers, customer service, drivers, and sales representatives regarding delivery times and issues.
- Act as intermediary between Transportation and Sales departments.
- Handle driver call-offs, absences, and vacation requests, communicating with Transportation Manager, Human Resources, and Payroll.
- Troubleshoot routing and delivery issues, following up with drivers throughout the day.
- Analyze and optimize standard routes for efficiency, instructing routers to make necessary changes based on driver feedback.
- Supervise and audit maintenance in Target and work with the night shift to maximize truck utilization (weight and cube).
- Coach and counsel drivers and helpers to improve performance and adherence to company policies, including issuing verbal and written disciplinary actions.
- Identify and recommend changes to departmental policies and practices.
- Report driver accidents, incidents, and injuries to the DOT Safety Manager and Human Resources.
- Cover the will-call window, including picking, invoicing, and collecting payment for walk-in customers.
- Handle customer/driver returns efficiently, including restocking, documenting with photos, and coding information.
- Ensure driver return sheets are accurate, complete, and trailers are cleaned out daily.
Requirements
- Class A CDL License preferred.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- High School Diploma and/or equivalent work-related experience.
Schedule
Generally Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with after-hours on-call availability via company-provided phone for emergencies or call-offs.
