Transportation Specialist IV - District Construction

The Lufkin District is seeking a highly motivated leader to serve in a critical district-wide role that directly impacts project quality, safety, training, and environmental stewardship. This position is more than just a job—it's an opportunity to become one of the district's go-to technical experts and help shape construction excellence across East Texas.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex field reviews of construction projects to assist area engineers and project engineers in resolution of construction problems.
- Coordinates and performs interim and final inspections to identify deficiencies.
- Inspects construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, maintain and repair traffic control/data collection related equipment or facilities in accordance with plans, specification and contract requirements.
- Reviews and revises Plans, Specifications & Estimates and project designs for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, roadway illumination, traffic management systems or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
- Reviews environmental documents.
- Trains and makes training-related recommendations to staff on new operations.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Experience: 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Qualifications
Competencies: Extensive knowledge of: Bridge construction and evaluation methods, procedures, and regulations Considerable knowledge of: Roadway construction, Inspection and evaluation methods and procedures Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Applicable laws, rules, and regulations Proficient skill in: Writing, reviewing, and revising documents to include engineering notes, specification, standards and procedures Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
