Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight
- Supervise daily cross-dock operations, including inbound receiving, freight sorting, staging, OS&D, and outbound loading.
- Cook up freight movement between inbound and outbound trailers to minimize dwell time and operational delays.
- Affirm accurate freight handling, labeling, scanning, and documentation.
- Monitor load schedules to ensure on-time departures and arrivals.
- Adjust staffing levels and workflow based on freight volume, peak periods, and operational demands.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and provide guidance to the Operations Team, including work hours and timekeeping (Workday).
- Train and coach dock associates and material handlers to ensure consistent performance and skill development.
- Assign daily work tasks and monitor productivity to ensure operational goals and labor expectations are met.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and corrective action as needed.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure consistent enforcement of company policies and procedures.
- Address employee concerns, attendance issues, and performance challenges in a timely and professional manner.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, dock audits, and equipment inspections to reinforce safe work practices.
- Monitor and enforce the proper use of material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and other powered industrial vehicles.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free dock environment at all times.
- Support accident and incident investigations, including documentation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Dispatch, the Terminal Manager, and internal and external customers to ensure smooth and efficient freight flow.
- Communicate service issues, delays, capacity constraints, or operational discrepancies to leadership in a timely manner.
- Investigate and resolve freight discrepancies, damages, shortages, and misloads to minimize service impact.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation, including bills of landing, load manifests, and related shipping paperwork.
- Education, experience, and/or technical skill requirements:
- 3 years of prior dock/warehouse Lead experience in the transportation industry.
- At least 2 years of LTL preferred.
- Experience with timekeeping systems preferred, particularly Workday.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
- Proficiency in MS Office

- Physical Demands / Working Environment
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry objects of varying weights, typically 25 to 50 pounds or more, depending on the job duties.
- Pushing and Pulling: Capability to push and pull carts, pallet jacks, or other equipment loaded with materials throughout the warehouse.
- Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often for the duration of a shift.
- Bending and Stooping: Capacity to bend, stoop, squat, and reach to retrieve items from shelves, bins, or storage racks.
- Climbing: Can climb ladders or stairs to access elevated storage areas or perform maintenance tasks.
- Operating Equipment: Proficiency in operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and order pickers.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to handle small objects, operate machinery controls, and perform tasks requiring precision and accuracy.
- Repetitive Motion: Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as scanning barcodes, sorting items, or packaging products, throughout the shift.
- Physical Endurance: Stamina and endurance to work in a fast-paced environment and meet productivity targets.
- Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety protocols and guidelines to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.
