Summary Of Responsibilities

Supervises the activities of employees of an engineering program
Develops, reviews, and maintains all traffic signals and roadway lighting in the district
Correspond with developers, consultants, local government, and utility owners, on a wide range of traffic topics
Review and analyze data from others

Requirements

  • Experience as a Professional Engineer
    Consulting with contractors, material suppliers, consultants, local officials, departmental engineers, and county maintenance and special operations crews about technical and operational issues.
    Experience working in the Traffic Engineering field

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: See Special Requirements
    Experience, Training, or Skills: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
    Substitute Education for Experience: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
    Substitute Experience for Education: NONE
    Special Requirements (Age, Licensure, Regulation, Etc.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.     Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period

  • This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
