About the role
The Bus Monitor assists special-education students during transport to and from school and performs custodial tasks in the Transportation area.
Responsibilities
- Assists other personnel as needed to support their work activities.
- Helps special-education students with safe loading, unloading, and transport, including emergency situations.
- Cleans buses to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
- Ensures teachers or aides escort special-education students to classrooms for safe arrival.
- Enforces rules and regulations with students.
- Monitors students for disruptive behavior (e.g., spitting, hitting, abusive language, kicking) to prevent driver distraction or injury.
- Reports observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior) to appropriate personnel.
- Secures students and equipment with restraints, tie-downs (e.g., wheelchairs, seat belts) to ensure safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance required.
- Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination required.
- Valid I-9 form required.
Working Environment
- Frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Pay
$15.15 per hour (minimum of Column A on the approved Classified Salary schedule).
Schedule
Up to 7 hours per day, 182 days per year.
