About the role

The Bus Monitor assists special-education students during transport to and from school and performs custodial tasks in the Transportation area.

Responsibilities

• Assists other personnel as needed to support their work activities.
• Helps special-education students with safe loading, unloading, and transport, including emergency situations.
• Cleans buses to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
• Ensures teachers or aides escort special-education students to classrooms for safe arrival.
• Enforces rules and regulations with students.
• Monitors students for disruptive behavior (e.g., spitting, hitting, abusive language, kicking) to prevent driver distraction or injury.
• Reports observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior) to appropriate personnel.
• Secures students and equipment with restraints, tie-downs (e.g., wheelchairs, seat belts) to ensure safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance required.
• Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination required.
• Valid I-9 form required.

Working Environment

• Frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Pay

$15.15 per hour (minimum of Column A on the approved Classified Salary schedule).

Schedule

Up to 7 hours per day, 182 days per year.
