About the role

The Transportation Engineer Tech I and Tech II positions at the Beaumont District of TxDOT offer opportunities to work on a variety of exciting projects across a twelve-county area. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about engineering and eager to contribute to the development of Texas transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic design work and prepares field notes.
  • Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies, and right-of-way maps.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting, and calculation errors, and correlation of plans and specifications.
  • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Transportation Engineer Tech I: No experience required.
    • Transportation Engineer Tech II: 2 years of experience in drafting, design, plan preparation.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.

Competencies

  • Interactive graphic and design information systems.
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Following verbal and written instructions.
  • Performing basic design and drafting.
  • Intermediate design and hand and computer-aided drafting procedures.
  • Higher mathematics.

  • Subject to outside environmental conditions.

  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.
  • Subject to repetitive motion.
  • Subject to close visual acuity.

  • Subject to hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
  • Subject to close visual acuity.
  • Subject to operating motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

Annual Salary Ranges

  • Transportation Engineer Tech I (A16): $40,918- $61,130.
  • Transportation Engineer Tech II (A18): $45,521- $71,055.
