Primary Responsibilities
- Aid in the design and development of transportation projects including roadways, intersections, pedestrian facilities, and traffic improvements.
- Create engineering drawings, plans, and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Perform basic to intermediate engineering calculations, including horizontal/vertical alignments, grading, drainage, quantities, and traffic control layouts.
- Prepare project documents such as cost estimates, technical reports, design summaries, and bid packages.
- Support field visits to collect data, conduct condition assessments, coordinate surveys, or observe construction activities.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop design solutions and ensure project quality.
- Assist with preparing MoDOT, LPA, or municipal submittals and ensure compliance with applicable design standards and guidelines.
- Review and interpret topographic surveys, geotechnical reports, environmental documents, and utility data.
- Participate in coordination with clients, utility companies, and permitting agencies as needed.
- Contribute to internal QA/QC processes, documentation, and design reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- 0–5 years of experience in transportation, roadway, or municipal infrastructure design.
- Experience or familiarity with MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Understanding of geometric design principles, drainage, traffic control, and plan development.
- Ability to prepare or assist with design calculations, drawings, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
- EIT/FE preferred; required for Engineer II level.
- PE-track candidates strongly preferred at higher level.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with ability to work independently as experience grows.
- Familiarity with DOT, LPA, or municipal design standards is a plus.
