About the role

National Life Capital Management is seeking a Transaction Manager, Residential Mortgage Whole Loans to support our expanding residential whole loan investment platform. The role involves managing the entire transaction lifecycle, coordinating due diligence, closing, settlement, and post-close portfolio management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the transaction process for residential whole loan acquisitions from due diligence through closing and post-settlement portfolio support.
  • Cook up settlement activities with Trade Support, Accounting, Technology, and external vendor partners.
  • Track and manage collateral documentation and credit file requirements.
  • Oversee third-party due diligence by establishing review scope, evaluating findings, resolving conditions, and identifying loans requiring exclusion or repricing.
  • Manage Mortgage Loan Purchase Agreements (MLPAs) and related transaction documentation from execution through settlement.
  • Cook up servicing transfers, including loan data and document delivery between outgoing and incoming servicers.
  • Monitor servicer performance against servicing agreements and portfolio expectations.
  • Track Early Payment Defaults (EPD) and Early Payoffs (EPO), managing premium recapture and repurchase claims with sellers.
  • Cook up Know Your Counterparty (KYC) activities with the Trading team.
  • Partner with Accounting, Trade Support, and other stakeholders to maintain accurate transaction records, valuations, and reporting.
  • Support monthly portfolio and investor reporting.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in transaction management within the residential mortgage industry.
  • Experience managing residential whole loan acquisitions, transaction closings, and settlement processes.
  • Working knowledge of MLPAs, bailee letters, custodial/trust receipts, servicing transfers, and EPD/EPO claims.
  • Experience with loan-level due diligence, collateral management, and contract administration.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to manage large residential mortgage loan data sets.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced investment environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive projects to completion.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Schedule

This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.
