Training Specialist - Operational Excellence

Indirect hourly role focused on training production team members in technical and tactical skills.

About the role

The Training Specialist delivers classroom and floor instruction, administers competency assessments, and creates or updates training curricula for hourly product and non-product builders across assembly, machining, logistics, and other support groups.

Responsibilities

• Conduct classroom and floor training sessions for production team members in various functions.
• Mentor and coach employees during training execution to drive employment success.
• Assess trainee competency through oral, written, and demonstration methods.
• Improve work processes and individual performance continuously.
• Support Manufacturing Operations in meeting site training objectives and goals.
• Collaborate with operations to create user-focused work instructions and training materials.
• Produce and revise in-house training materials as needed.
• Identify and assess training needs by conferring with leadership.
• Track plant-wide training, including annual and mandatory training; maintain training matrices and records.
• Coordinate and maintain training materials following process or work instruction updates.
• Establish consistent documentation practices and audit for compliance.
• Ensure each area has up-to-date training materials and review periodically.
• Coordinate, schedule, and conduct technical training for new hires and current employees.
• Organize training logistics: review participant lists, distribute materials, monitor trainees, and support OJT trainers.
• Adhere to quality, safety standards, company policies, and operational procedures.
• Coordinate and facilitate information sessions and tours with BorgWarner partners (e.g., technical colleges and governmental agencies).
• Serve on internal company committees (Safety, Culture, etc.) as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
• Minimum of one-year manufacturing production experience required; three or more years of related vocational or educational industry experience preferred.
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook products.
• Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods in classroom and manufacturing floor environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively, including public speaking before large audiences.
• Strong listening, leadership, and interpersonal skills with a focus on confidentiality, integrity, and safety.
• Ability to foster a learning environment with a diverse group of students.
• Works cooperatively or independently and inspires team effort.
• Strong organizing, coordinating, and communication skills in a busy work environment.
• Teaching, facilitation, and curriculum design skills.
• Ability to determine training objectives and design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans.
• Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans.
• Ability to perform basic office and computer work for extended periods.
• Occasional travel required (<10%).

Physical Requirements

• Stand for long periods, including during operation of stand-up lifts.
• Lift up to 35 lbs. repetitively at shoulder height.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive motion activities (assembly, walking, standing, lifting, loading/unloading carts).
• Occasional climbing of steps.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
