TRADITIONAL HEALER/COUNSELOR

Responsibilities

  • Provides traditional healing and counseling services through cultural ritual treatment procedures to support holistic care encompassing mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
  • Plans, manages, and carries out FDIHB traditional counseling and healing services in alignment with outpatient and inpatient departmental goals.
  • Delivers traditional counseling and healing services to patients and families through bedside intervention, traditional Hogan interventions, mobile unit, and sweat lodge as appropriate.
  • Works with patients and attending providers to promote care coordination, including providing interpretation services and assisting staff in understanding Navajo cultural perspectives on healthcare and illness.
  • Provides traditional counseling and healing focused on health maintenance, promotion, and illness prevention.
  • Documents all patient care and services in the electronic medical record per FDIHB and departmental policies.
  • Schedules and provides appropriate aftercare follow-up during hospitalization or post-discharge.
  • Performs ceremonies or blessings for FDIHB departments, including mock codes, new facility dedications, annual clinical unit blessings, and other activities as needed.
  • Manages therapeutic sweat services and maintains traditional Hogan and sweat lodge facilities.
  • May participate in the Traditional Diné Hataałii Association (DHA), Native American Church (NAC), and other FDIHB committees.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of direct work experience.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSE).
  • Certification within the Diné Hataałii Association (DHA) or the Azee’ Bee Nahagha of Diné Nation (ABNDN).

Pay

Hourly range: $26.13 – $32.14 per hour.

Preferences

Navajo/Indian preference in employment: Applicants who are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation will receive primary preference. Members of other federally recognized Indian tribes will receive secondary preference.
