Position Summary

The position of Traditional Counselor is to provide behavioral health counseling services, rehabilitation services, case management, and aftercare with individuals and families impacted by a variety of behavioral health (addiction/substance abuse and mental health) issues.

Position Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year experience, or equivalent education, within the counseling field. If in recovery, prefer two years sobriety.
  • Experience with Traditional Yup'ik Healing practices.
  • Completed Calicahak and facilitator training.
  • First Aide/ CPR Certified.
  • CPI/Mandt (or equivalent) certified.
  • QPR trained.
  • Uqisqiun trained.
  • Computer, telephone, availability of copy/fax machine, and other organization and work related policies and procedures.
  • Bilingual in English and Yup’ik preferred.
  • Basic counseling skills and knowledge of rehabilitative services for children and adults who are in need of traditional/cultural counseling services, in both Group and Individual and Family settings.
  • Able to navigate and operate within our eHR (Cerner/Raven) and AK AIMS system.
  • Good verbal and writing communication skills.
