Track Laborer - Full Time (Harrah's Hoosier Park)

About the Role

Maintains and repairs racetrack surfaces and physical structures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all equipment to be used during the assigned shift is ready for use.
• Operate water trucks, tractors, backhoe, and spreader truck.
• Wash equipment.
• Repair pylons and fence as needed.
• Assist with equipment repair and maintenance.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, such as changing oil and replenishing fluids.
• Refuel vehicles.
• Remove and replace rail as required.
• Perform minor carpentry work.
• Conduct minor welding repairs.
• Remove snow for all areas of Hoosier Park.
• Assist Landscaping staff when required.
• Abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions.
• Manage risk factors to eliminate company exposure to insurance claims and legal challenges.
• Ensure all company activities and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Proficient in English (verbal and written).
• High school diploma or GED.
• One to three months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have an outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude.
• Must be comfortable initiating conversations and fostering a fun environment for guests.
• Flexible to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays if applicable.

Qualifications

• Ability to lift/push up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, twist, reach, and kneel repetitively.
• Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment.
• Ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling guest and employee conflicts.
• Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, depth, and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to ascend and descend stairs and maintain equilibrium for an extended period.
• Must be able to work from a standing position and/or walking motion for an extended period.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Able to write simple correspondence.
• Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a license from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, and vibrations.
• The noise level is usually moderate.
