About the role

This position is responsible for performing skilled trades work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of building systems, equipment, and facilities. The Trades Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of college facilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and install electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities to ensure operational efficiency.
• Respond to work orders and emergency repair requests in a timely manner.
• Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify and address potential hazards or needed repairs.
• Operate and maintain tools, machinery, and vehicles required for trade work.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and college policies during all maintenance activities.
• Assist in the planning and execution of minor construction and renovation projects.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
• Collaborate with other maintenance staff, contractors, and college departments as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in a skilled trade (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry) is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in general maintenance, repair, or a related skilled trade.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate college vehicles.
• Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and best practices in facility maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

Pay

Hiring range: $60,000 - $70,000 per year.
