About the Role

The Therapist III, under general supervision of the Supervisor of Behavioral Health Therapy and/or Manager of Behavioral Health Operations, is responsible for making treatment and level of care decisions independently. They collaborate as needed with their physician providers. They complete patient assessments, plan for therapeutic interventions and appropriate follow-up care, implement treatment plans, and coordinate the treatment process. The Therapist III also demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age and cultural diversity of the patients served. In addition to providing direct patient care, the Therapist III provides supervision toward licensure for unlicensed therapists within the Behavioral Health Department. Responsibilities

• Make treatment and level of care decisions independently
• Collaborate with physician providers as needed
• Complete patient assessments and plan therapeutic interventions
• Implement and coordinate treatment plans and follow-up care
• Provide services appropriate to the age and cultural diversity of patients
• Supervise unlicensed therapists toward licensure within the Behavioral Health Department
• Uphold and demonstrate UVA’s Mission, Vision, and Values
• Provide guidance to team members on patient concerns through teaching, communication, and trust-building
• Use patient feedback to create innovative ideas to meet patient needs
• Ensure team members have pertinent information to educate patients on procedures and processes
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members, leadership, and community providers
• Demonstrate willingness to adjust activities to accommodate team needs
• Mentor, precept, and provide timely feedback to team members
• Collaborate with leaders and team members for positive patient experiences
• Apply deep knowledge of psychiatric medications, diagnoses, mental health concepts, and evidence-based interventions
• Implement treatment plans using best practice modalities to achieve optimal patient outcomes
• Establish and maintain control of violent patients and defend self and others during crises
• Pursue continuing education and professional development as a self-directed professional
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Graduate degree required; Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience
• Licensure as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Clinical Psychologist, or PMHCNS
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required within 3 months of hire
• BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
• Approval by the Virginia Board of Social Work or Virginia Board of Counseling to provide supervision toward licensure within 3 months of hire
• Good working knowledge of computers
• Ability to care for Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse populations across age groups

Physical Demands

• Constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping
• Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills
• Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs (use Safe Handling Equipment for weights over 35 lbs)
• May require use of safety equipment (e.g., HEPA mask) for infection prevention
• On-call responsibilities as directed
• Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed

Pay

The base compensation for this role is $50.50 hourly. This rate does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, or other incentives that may be available for eligible positions.
