Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

About the role

The Activities Assistant helps the Activities Coordinator with the planning, organization, coordination and implementation of therapeutic activities for older adults at our day center. The work varies on a day-to-day basis, ensuring no boredom in this job.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, coordinate and implement therapeutic activities for older adults
• Occasionally travel to homes within the community to conduct activities with participants
• Work cooperatively with the Activities Coordinator and Day Center staff
• Enhance and advance activity programming format using skills, talents, and creativity
• Take on leadership role in the absence of the Activities Coordinator

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED with willingness to continue education
• One year experience working with the frail or elderly
• One year experience providing therapeutic activities in a social setting
• Driver's license required due to occasional travel

Qualifications

• Willingness to enhance and advance activity programming format
• Ability to work cooperatively with others
• Knowledgeable in geriatric medicine and care
