Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

About the role

The Activities Assistant helps the Activities Coordinator with the planning, organization, coordination and implementation of therapeutic activities for older adults at our day center. The work varies on a day-to-day basis, ensuring no boredom in this job.

Responsibilities

• Helps organize and implement therapeutic activities for older adults
• Works cooperatively with the Activities Coordinator and Day Center staff
• Uses skills, talents, and creativity to enhance and advance activity programming format
• Takes on leadership role in the absence of the Activities Coordinator
• Occasionally travels to homes within the community to conduct activities

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED with willingness to continue education
• One year experience working with the frail or elderly
• One year experience providing therapeutic activities in a social setting
• Driver's license required due to occasional travel

• Ability to work cooperatively with others
• Knowledgeable about the needs of older adults
