About the role

The Therapeutic Mentor/Therapeutic Training and Support Specialist provides community-based direct care services to children and families. The primary focus is to alleviate mental health issues and strengthen family structures and supports. Therapeutic Mentoring involves structured, one-to-one support services to address daily living, social, and communication needs. The role includes supporting, coaching, and training youth in appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Supports, coaches, and trains youth in age-appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Engages youth in community activities that meet one or more of the following purposes: provision of anticipatory guidance, teaching of alternative strategies, role-playing, behavioral rehearsal, skill acquisition, practicing skills, exposure to social situations, enhancing conflict resolution skills, developing communication skills.
  • Supports the implementation of the clinician's treatment plan to assist the youth and family in achieving the goals of that plan.
  • Taught the youth to understand, direct, interpret, manage, and control feelings and emotional responses to situations.
  • Aids the family in addressing the youth's emotional and mental health needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a human services field plus two years of experience working with children.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide individualized support and guidance.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing.
  • Proficiency in community-based activities and interventions.
