About the role

The Therapeutic Mentor/Therapeutic Training and Support Specialist provides community-based direct care services to children and families. The primary focus is to alleviate mental health issues and strengthen family structures and supports. Therapeutic Mentoring involves structured, one-to-one support services to address daily living, social, and communication needs. The role includes supporting, coaching, and training youth in appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Supports, coaches, and trains youth in age-appropriate behaviors and interpersonal communication
• Engages youth in various community activities to practice and enhance skills
• Teaches alternative strategies and provides role-playing and behavioral rehearsal
• Assists in implementing the clinician's treatment plan to address youth's mental health, behavioral, and emotional needs
• Provides anticipatory guidance, teaches new skills, and enhances conflict resolution skills
• Engages in social, recreational, athletic, artistic, educational, and vocational activities
• Trains and supports implementation of the clinician's treatment plan
• Teaches youth to manage feelings and emotional responses
• Affords family support in addressing youth's emotional and mental health needs

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a human services field
• Two years of experience working with children
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to provide supportive and motivational guidance
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness skills
